Not sure I follow your issue, but I have downloaded several of the larger mpeg2 files and get a Quicktime error message "Cannot open the file. It is not a type that Quicktime understands (-0248). I edit in Media100HD and also have Final Cut as a backup. Neither of those applications can import the files either. Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem? The mp4 files download fine and open perfectly in QT, Media100 and FCP, but of course, the resolution is less than great.

People have reported success editing with the high quality mpeg2 versions by transcoding them to DV using ffmpegX or streamclip.

never thought i'd be saying this, but - in this one case - Premiere Pro 2.0 is actually kicking FCP a**.

i'm about to finish up a feature using the archive footage. when i upgraded to Premiere 2.0, I was able to import the mpeg2s directly into Premiere and edit them from the timeline. Things were a little choppy if i didn't preview render them, but for the most part I've been really happy.

I tried to do the same thing in FCP, but it made you render the movies before you could even look at them.

Just thought this might help someone out.
